Looks like there is no going back

Thank you for the love, support and understanding you have shown me during this difficult time.

It means so much that you can relate to what has happened.

Your kind comments are like a salve that helps to heal this wound.

Thank you so much for taking the time to console me.

My son has written a short synopsis of what exactly happened to La Dolfina.

Hopefully it will shed some light as well as stop the same thing from happening to any of you.

For now I am contemplating my next step as I move forward with my blog and other endeavors.

I love blogging and La Dolfina is a big part of who I've become.

I do not want to lose the relationships and connections I have made here in blogland with so many of you... so I will keep calm and carry on in hopes that you will continue to visit and read me.

I AM

Today I display one of the greatest powers a person can demonstrate - the power of choice.  Circumstances may sometimes appear bleak, but nothing and no one can keep God's good from me.  I choose faith instead of doubt.  I choose peace instead of worry.  I choose clarity over confusion.

As I maintain a hopeful and positive attitude, I attract all the resources I need to overcome any challenge or reach any goal.  Nothing can disturb my peace; nothing can weaken my faith.

When facing difficulties, I take a moment to put the situation in perspective.  I consciously choose a hopeful and positive attitude, which buoys my spirit and lifts my mind above any worry or concern.

HOW TO AVOID LOSING YOUR BLOG PHOTOS

1.  Photos uploaded to blogger are uploaded and stored on Google+
2.  If you delete your photos from Google+, they are permanently deleted once they are emptied from the Google+ Trash Bin.
3.  Google makes no attempt to warn you that the Blogger and Google+ systems are inextricably linked, and that when you delete something on Google+ it is forever deleted from Blogger.
4.  In an effort to clear storage space (150% over capacity), my son deleted what seemed to be backup photos on Google+.
5.  Now 90% of photos on my blog are gone, and there is no way to get them back.

***in order to safeguard against this happening to you, create an archive at www.google.com/takeout

Takeout is a service that "saves the state" of your blog at any one point in time, and lets you download the data backup.

Takeout can also be used for other google products.

Omgosh I have no idea how Google+ works or even how to go there. This is a scary proposition. Thank you for sharing the info. but so very sorry this happened to YOU. I think your posetive attitude of moving forward is key. I kind of felt that way when 2 years of picts used off pinterest are no longer on my blog, so I know how you feel on that level. Keep going forward with more adventures and treasure hunting!! Do what you love and love what you do!

Therese,

I have been a long time reader of your blog. When I go back in your archives, all your pictures are still there. I started reading your blog in 2009, all the pictures on your blog show up from that point in time. Is there some way friar I can send them to you?

Sincerely, geri

Hi Geri,

Thanks for reaching out to me!
I know that some posts still have the photos attached to them. It seems that there comes a certain point at about 2011 that it was the photos used in posts after that which were stored and deleted in the cloud.
Have you checked any of my posts say from 2013 or 2014? I am so very grateful that my earlier posts seem to not have been affected as those photos were not deleted. I will treasure those more than ever as they are very precious, especially those with my mom and I treasure hunting.
It's so nice to hear from you... how have you been?
Thanks for caring and offering your help to me :)

I'm so sad this has happened to your beautiful blog, T. I was hopeful that the photos were still there because I could see them in the past posts when I clicked on the links. Guess I didn't click on the more recent posts. I did that just now, and yes, sadly the photos are missing. I don't understand google+. I have no idea if my photos are in google+ or not. How does one know?
I need to get a plan in order for documenting my blog.
Keep moving forward. Your readers are here! '-)

I am so sorry to hear that you lost so much. All this internet stuff is difficult for me to understand and as soon as I think I do then they change things. I am not on Google+ and all my photos are in Picasa so maybe it is different. We just got a backup system and I was going to begin deleting photo files but I wonder if they will then disappear from my blog posts. So I will have to look into this more before deleting anything. Thank you for the info to help us avoid this loss. I am glad to hear you will keep calm and carry on. hugs

Thank you Kerrie and Sarah!
I'm am grateful that my loss can serve to warn others of the possibility of losing something precious forever. The most unbelievable part of all this is that Google does not have a pop up bubble that warns you if you continue to empty your trash it will be irreversible. We brought that up to them and saw many heartfelt losses and complaints about that but Google continues to not add this at that critical point where you click that button. You aren't aware of the serious consequences of your potential action! It's a grave oversight on Google's end for sure.
Love you both!!!

love your attitude. I guess that's why most of us adore you so. you were one of the very first bloggers to reach out to me and make me welcome as a new blogger. I think we can feel your kind spirit over the 'net, although most of us have never met you.

even if you no longer have your photos (and I know how much they mean to you) look what you have left us with! the beauty of YOU.

surely, surely, there is something to be done. don't give up hope. keep trying.

and whatever happens, keep on being you.

love to you!

Hi Terri

I love your attitude. Onward and upward.

That is a serious oversight on Google's part.
It amuses me that when we go to delete our spam from e-mail, it asks "do you wish to permanently delete this". Why they would be concerned for spam baffles me.

Have a great weekend

I am so sorry that you lost your photographs. I know how much work went into them. At one time pictures you posted on Blogger automatically were placed into Picassa. Have you checked there? I have lost a few photos but was able to replace with similar photos. I now subscribe to Carbonite. They have gotten me out of a jam a couple of times. You can also copy your entire blog. It only takes a few minutes. I copy once a week and delete the previous copy. Let me know if you need help and I will send instructions. ox, Gina

So sorry if I got your hopes up! You're right... The photos disappear about 2012. I can only imagine your disappointment. As you said, you still have some of you and your mom treasure hunting. She seems like an amazing woman and mother! I wish you both a wonderful Mother's Day! xx ... And hopefully Gina's suggestion will help out!

I have been great! Thanks for asking!

Oh my goodness Terri, I just saw this new post after I emailed you back! I am shocked. I mean really, who in the world would know, so frustrating about Google+! (along with other issues.

When I changed my blog name from Art by Karena to The Arts by Karena you would not believe the havoc and I could get no help anywhere...from Blogger or Google+

Terri... I am so- o sorry for your angst. I have avoided doing Google plus and just about every other social networking due to my low techno abilities..knowing my exposure is limited but afraid I would do what just happened to you! I had no idea that google plus and blogger were merged in this way. Ironically, I was just feeling bold enough to move forward with Google plus...not so sure now. I am sure your son feels terrible about this . My heart is with you. But....your Blog is too precious and you must continue.... We all would miss you too much in Blogland:)! I hope you relax this weekend....go estate saling....and put this horror behind you:)!!!!

Ugh…dreadful. I want to give you a big hug.

I store backups on my computer and then on an external drive…are you saying that my photos won't be stored that way…or do you know. So confusing.

I love your writing and attitude and feel sorry for your pain.

I'm really (really!) ignorant about all of this, but I think you will be able to find at least some of your photos on Pinterest, where people have "pinned" them. They will not link back to your posts, obviously, but I think they are there.

Oh, oh, oh! Have just scrolled down to see what happened…..yikes that is horrendous. Just a click and boom.

A couple of months ago my blog got hacked BIG TIME by a scam financial institution. They had embedded their evil links into all of my images (which after 5 years of blogging was a lot of images…). Anyway, I have rebuilt the whole site and am slowly, but steadily, putting all the old posts back with my own archived images….Luckily I had saved them on an external hard drive so all were safe without corruption.

But I think, if it helps at all, that the elegance and style which you have brought to the blogging world is absolutely in our minds, with or without the past images. And from here, it's onwards and upwards!

My heart just sank... this is devastating news. I am so terribly, terribly sorry for your loss. I have been backing up my blog lately using this tutorial -http://www.shineyourlightblog.com/2013/01/how-to-back-up-your-blogger-blog.html... Hopefully that will keep me protected? It is so frustrating how little technical support and protection there is for us bloggers... I just learned that Feedburner (which emails my followers with blog updates) has been spontaneously deleting followers, and I'm just sick about it. Anywho, I'm sending you a virtual hug... Please hang in there!

XOXO,
