One of a kind is definitely my favorite kind and when I stumbled upon this truly fabulous 19th Century Anglo-Oriental Sideboard my heart almost came to a stop!
I went completely GAGA.
First of all, antique bamboo furniture is my all time favorite and I have collected and admired it for as long as I can remember.
I've seen plenty of incredible pieces in person in shops, on ebay, in books etc., but I have never seen anything quite like this before.
When I showed it to my very knowledgeable friend, Lisa, all she could mutter was... "it's FABULOUS."
(Fortunately my partner in crime was with me and did her best to calm me down, even though I told her I was not leaving without it!)
It had everything...
marble shelves, beveled glass and mirrors, 5 locking doors, whimsical flourishes, incredible brass oriental hardware, grasscloth, curved front, and lots and lots of storage... oh my!
The previous owners said they are not sure of its origin but they believe it to be French.
Just look at the fanciful detail!
The unique and unusual hardware!
Each of the 5 glass front cabinets has its own key!
I pictured it filled it with shells and all my favorite treasures.
I just kept pinching myself over and over for finding such a unique and special piece.
I've never loved a piece more...
It had my name written all over it!
We brought it home last weekend and sadly discovered that it really is much too large a piece to fit in our modestly sized abode.
Believe me, I considered every place it could possibly go, willing to swap out whatever was there in the name of an upgrade.
It's killing me to let it go...
But alas, I am a treasure huntress who prides herself on finding and selling unique and wonderful things and this my friends is probably my best find yet!
If you or anyone you know might be interested in this piece, please feel free to contact me for details.
My friend Lisa calls it a "stand alone piece", meaning it could go in any number of rooms and used in any number of ways.
It could be equally fabulous in a dining room, bedroom, great room, living room, family room... really any room in the house, especially if the house is grand in scale.
So tell me...
have you ever seen anything like it?

I am so disappointed for you! I was scrolling and scrolling, waiting to see it in your home, looking amazing....such a let down. Hopefully, you sell it to someone you know, that way you can visit it occasionally. k
Omgoodness, I can't believe it is going to go, it is so YOU!! I feel sad for you. It just seems so perfect for you. What are its measurements? It is a beauty!! YOU always find the perfect treasures,

I'm a huge fan of bamboo furniture too and have quite a few small pieces, but this is incredible! I've never seen anything like it! I wish I could find a place for it, believe me I would buy it! Good luck finding a home for this "stand alone" piece. ~Delores
PS: Are you SURE you can't find a place for it in your home? Swap out your buffet in the dining room? I can just see it filled with your natural curiosities.....!
The hardware is gorgeous and love the lines.. and the marble! I like the comment above:) I'd be on a mission to do a little swapping around to make it work.
Good like finding a home for this beautiful piece.
This really is something else! There has to be a place for it in your not so small home!

Terri, can't you find a way to make it work in your home? It is a gorgeous piece and so very YOU! You have done it again and found another spectacular piece! I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that you will make it fit into your home.
Your friend Lisa is correct - this is a fabulous piece!!! I can't believe how incredible the hardware is and how lucky to have all the keys...amazing. The only real unfortunate part of this story is it doesnt fit in your house and like you I have a smaller house as well so :(. Thanks for sharing though so I can at least admire from afar...
Now listen here! You cannot sell that treasure! You see, if you do, you will anger the gods of the hunt and they will not allow you to find fabulous treasures any more! You must do whatever it takes to fit that marvelous piece into your home - knock down walls, build an addition, build a new house - just don't get rid of it!
I say this lovingly and respectfully of course!

It is cool...I love bamboo and the marble...but lack of space here keeps me from buying a lot of things...oh that and cash :)
