An Ongoing Challenge

 Our front entry has been a never ending challenge over the 25 years we have lived here.

I can't tell you how many different plantings we have tried in various containers flanking our front door.

 This past Spring I scored several large healthy hydrangeas that looked amazing...

for a time.

I did my very best trying to keep them looking great, but the shifting sun exposure not only had me switching them back & forth,

but shading them with golf umbrellas every afternoon to shield them from the full force of the afternoon sun.

They finally succumbed to white powdery mildew and are recuperating and hopefully regenerating in the full shade of the backyard.

My husband and I came up with this idea over the weekend.

We have several wine barrel strap spheres and decided to try them in the planter boxes.

A trip to Home Depot yielded 2 flats of a gorgeous low growing plant that fortunately fit perfectly inside our planters.

We filled up the planters with leftover bricks  and set the flats on top.

At first we were going to place them on their axis point but in the end decided to set them casually upon the living green carpet.

This way they look like knots.

So, the question is...
