PLEASE PRAY

Today around 3pm my brother Stephen got the call he's been waiting for since his name was put at the top of the donor list several weeks ago.

(The ADA's Napa Valley Tour de Cure last month)

When I saw his name come across my cell phone I knew he was calling to tell me it was time...

It was surreal, I didn't know how to feel.

Our family was ready, we had just attended an anointing of the sick mass a week earlier where we laid our hands upon his head and prayed in gratitude for the yet unknown donor's organs and the successful outcome of his impending surgery.

He was told to be at UCSF within 4 hours.
The young donor is on life support.
It's hard to deal with the mixed emotions I'm feeling of both extreme happiness and gratitude coupled with intense sadness and loss.

It's times like this that I cling to my faith and it strengthens me...

Please join me in praying for both my brother and the donor who is giving him the gift of life.

Stephen is scheduled for surgery at 10:00AM tomorrow morning.

My family and I thank you for your love and prayers.

How very difficult, such conflicting emotions...God's ways are higher than our ways, we can't always understand but that's where our faith comes in. I will pray for the success of the surgery, thankful that God provides. I pray also that you and your family will be at peace.

I will be praying for you and him and the family. When my father died suddenly...I think it would have given me relief to know that part of him went on in another. For something good to come out of something so bad. I hope it brings some relief to that family. I pray for all the best for all of you.

Terri, I am sending positive thoughts to your brother and your whole family. I also believe that the donor's family will have a little relief knowing that part of him/her will give life to someone else.

Hello Terri

This is wonderful news for your and Stephen and I am praying for you and also the throughtful, kind family who decided to be a donor

I have a big candle lit in your honour

PS. The sacrament of annointing is very powerful, I one time accepted this sacrament and it is very sobering.

I just opened this. I hope all went well with surgery and that there will be no rejection issues. My mother received the anointing of the sick Wednesday afternoon. As your brother gets a renewed life, my mother will also get a new life. You are all in my thoughts, Ann Hug your Mom for me.

What grace and incredible strength the family of that young donor must have. It brings tears to my eyes thinking of their pain. They are in my prayers.
I am sure your brother will pay it forward when he returns to full health.

Dear Anon,

I feel the same way... I can't get my mind off the donor and his family and I've been praying that when the time comes they will want to meet my brother and become a part of all our lives. I love them so much and can't wrap my mind around their loss especially since he was my own son's age. It's been incredibly hard on me and I've been praying for him and his loved ones all day.
Thank you for your comment.

The loss of a son is the worst thing I have ever gone through. It must be a comfort to them that they were able to get a blessing from such a tragedy. Your mom must be so relieved. All of our daily endeavors are just stuff and nonsense compared to this. Ann
