Art, Wine & Design
in the Napa Valley
Ma(i)sonry is a living gallery...
a destination where guests can appreciate art and furnishings that encompass a variety of works from 16th century European craftsmen to contemporary artists and designers, all while savoring limited production, boutique wines.
Ma(i)sonry's portfolio of collective wines evolves throughout the year.
You can enjoy a wine tasting experience in one of three private rooms in the historic house or the outdoor gardens, which are landscaped around architectural remnants, contemporary sculpture and a stone fire pit.
After the Tour de Cour we met up with my step-sister who lives in nearby St. Helena.
We ordered a Chardonnay tasting flight.
Tasting flight is a term used by wine tasters to describe a selection of wines, usually between three and eight glasses, but sometimes as many as fifty, presented for the purpose of sampling and comparison.
We settled in around the stone fire pit amid the lovely surroundings and proceeded to catch up on each others lives.
I couldn't help wondering why I didn't come here more often and made a pact with my sister that I would come back several times to hang out with her over the summer.
My father and his wife lived in St. Helena in the 1980's, which prompted my sister, Kecia, to relocate there.
She is a talented hair dresser who for years owned her own salon, Halo, which was located downtown adjacent to the historic Hotel St. Helena.
Many of her clients include local wine makers, Joe Montana's wife, and on occasion Kate Spade when she's in town.
And speaking of celebrities...
Kecia tells us that Yountville, where Ma(i)sonry is located, is fast becoming known as "The Vegas Strip" of the wine country.
People fly in for the weekend to
Taste Wine, Dine, Spa & Shop.
She's amazed at how much this little strip has evolved over the last 7 or so years...
It's claim to fame is Thomas Keller's
I actually celebrated my 40th Birthday at
The French Laundry almost 15 years ago!
I do recall that Yountville didn't have a whole lot going on besides being home to this now world famous restaurant.
It was the perfect way to end a perfect day!
I feel so blessed to have the beautiful Napa Valley so close and plan to visit a lot more often!
If you have yet to experience it, you must put it on your list of places to visit...
It is pretty wonderful!
No wonder Kecia has stayed so long!
