It's hard not to go treasure hunting on Saturday morning... even on vacation!
So...
My sweet husband took me down to Kings Beach to get our first look at the lake and lo and behold along with the breathtaking views were several garage sale signs.
The first one we came upon held tremendous promise but I think we were just a little too late to score anything truly exciting.
Although we didn't leave empty handed.
Love this vintage cutie,
which has been converted to propane.
We stumbled onto this sale a few blocks over,
where they were selling their son's buckle collection and no I didn't buy any although I did consider #263.
After hitting a few more garage sales in Kings Beach we headed to Tahoe City,
where we hit up Syd's for coffee and a bagel.
We grabbed our order and headed out back
to find a spot to sit down and take in the spectacular views of the picture perfect lake.
It never fails to take my breath away no matter how many times I see it!
Refreshed and re-fueled we crossed the street and made our way to my favorite thrift store,
passing the quaint restaurants, shops and sporting goods stores that line the street across from the lake.
This sweatshirt pretty much covers it!
I love this bike!
We've arrived!
And yes, I scored!!!
No, not these...
they were at another garage sale and were priced at $100... too rich for my blood.
But the guy who was selling them turned out to be quite a colorful character.
Turns out he wrote a children's book about "Tahoe Tessie" the monster of Lake Tahoe.
A super friendly guy, he invited us inside his classic Lake Tahoe abode.
Here he is telling my husband how the ragged oar hung above the window was chewed on by Tahoe Tessie.
His home is filled with amazing treasures that he's spent a lifetime collecting.
We ended out treasure hunt in the town of Truckee where we happened upon this sale situated on a lovely little street above the Truckee river.
I love this stretch of homes and buildings located behind the historic downtown.
Everywhere you look there is something interesting and eye catching.
Check out the amazing vintage ice box!
My husband bought a pair of Teva-esque sandals and I...
bought this bucket of old baseballs.
Here are some more images I captured on this idyllic street...
I love thrifting on vacation... it sort of makes me feel like a local!
What about you?

Happy 4th to you both,xo
Now that's my kind of vacation! I'd take that instead of a beach anyday. It looks like a great place - so charming and down-home comfy. :)
You know it! Just got back from 10 days in Coronado and I went to the swap meet in San Diego about 3-4times and also brought home some great scores but found your CA prices very high compared to AZ. Didn't find as many great estate/garage sales as you always seem to :)
Still loving your blog...you've inspired me to do some treasure hunting while on my vacation in Colorado next week.
I shared your cabana-like entryway on my blog today. Great idea!

You went to two of my favorite places in Tahoe City, Pass It On & Syd's. They are a must when we head up to Tahoe. And yes, Yard Saling and Thrifting are two of my favorite things to do when vacationing along with hitting the local Farmer's Market. Enjoy your trip! Terry
Loved seeing where you went. Looks like a really fun day!
Looks like you guys had a great time. Sounds like a perfect adventure!
