Today while shopping...

The White Elephant Sale, I found my ultimate set of silverware!

I have never seen anything like it!

The knife is very heavy and substantial.

The dinner fork has a crest.

The soup spoon has a crown.

The salad fork has a fleur de lys.

And the teaspoon has a bird over a shell.

The set is comprised of 8 - 5 piece place settings.

It is marked Sheffield, England.

I'm still swooning over this find!!

Have you ever seen anything like this?
I have seen a set of silver plate at Pottery Barn that duplicates a different pattern of hotel silver on each utensil, but this set is just amazing.  I can't believe someone just donated it. I wish I knew the story/history.

I too have this service ( for 16 ). It was offered through Williams- Sonoma about 8-10 years ago. They had matching serving pieces as well

This was a great find and I would have scooped them up also. I don't collect silverplate but they are fun to use. One nice thing is that if you search you can add to your set. The pistol handled knives are very popular. Search England's eBay site or Australia's. Love your blog as I enjoy looking at everything you find at the Alameda flea and estate sales.

Hotel silver is just wonderful! I have different pieces form flea markets all around Europe, I love to mix and match them especially on festive occasions, but use them also in every day settings.
