When kids go away to college their needs change.
With the change in lifestyle comes a change in Christmas presents.
So with that in mind here is a list of the Best Ever Christmas Gifts for College Students from factOidz.
#1
They don't care how much or how little.
It also doesn't matter to them if it is in a card, tied with a fancy ribbon or just handed to them. Any size is right for a college student who will be glad to take it to the store to exchange for smaller sizes as needed.
#2
College students crave food from home.
Any kind of cookies, party mix or baked goods are welcome.
#3
This program can help the computer be returned if it is lost or stolen. There is also an insurance policy that comes with the premium software.
#4
College students need all the regular laundry products that you would use at home. This list includes detergent, bleach, fabric softener and stain removal products. Rolls of quarters make perfect stocking stuffers!
#5
Kids get hungry when the dining hall is closed.
Pizza gift cards are great for food during late night studying binges.
Starbucks, fast food, hair styling, gasoline and Target cards are other good choices.
#6
Things like shampoo, deodorants and regular soaps come in handy.

A lot goes on when you live on a college campus.
It's nice to be able to go off campus for a movie or event.
I've been out treasure hunting for some cool vintage finds to add to the mix of Christmas gifts for my college freshman.
I picked up this felt banner at the college bookstore when we dropped him off in the Fall.

My friend, the lovely Tricia Rose who writes the blog, Cabin on the Water and created the line Rough Linen, made it into a great pillow for me.
I created this "art installation" (in honor of the intense UCLA V USC Rivalry) using this solid wood "Bruin" bear and this vintage "Tommy" Trojan Soldier that I found on one of my many treasure hunting forays.
I also scored this great old California license plate,
and this killer famed Berkeley street sign
for some much needed dorm room decor.
There's nothing quite like an old fashioned pencil sharpener and a classic stag horn pocket knife to round it out!
I have a few more goodies up my sleeve that I'll share with you when they are ready!
(I'm pretty sure he doesn't read my blog... poor guy is going through the final stage of initiation at his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, before he heads home on Wednesday.)

Fabulous ideas!!!! I especially love the pillow you had created out of his UCLA pennant. I mean, how smart and creative are you?!! VERY!!!!!

With three guys in college, I know the challenge! Love the UCLA pillow made from the banner!

I wish I had this list 3 years ago. This is such a great post. I like the sharpner for myself. Hally Holidays. yvonne
This is a great post Terri! Love all your ideas for gifts. They are all so true!
Tricia did a fantastic job on your pillow. I'm sure your son will love it and keep it forever! Alex is coming home from Italy in a week and I don't have much for him. He missed the Giants, so I got him a World Series t-shirt, but that's all. Since his computer crashed yesterday, (right before finals) I think I'm going to have to buy a new one. E-gad!
As an Bruin myself, my favorite is your "art installation"!
Great focussed gift list Terri - um - are you sure you didn't 'lift' the street sign yourself? I have only admiration if you did, you iconoclast you!
I have one just going through initiation as well - can't wait til THAT's over!! So many great ideas - some of which I've already taken care of as well ($, Starbucks and ITunes cards, computer LoJack - only for the older one). LOVE the pillow idea - will have to check out his school store. What a nice mom you are!!
YOU are just
lov'in that boy!
I could feel it
in every single
word and in each
lovely suggestion....
And I'm betting
he's crazy about
his mama, too.
Great ideas, all.
I'll be the one
sending cookies
before you know
it...BOO HOO...!
Merry Thursday,
xx Suzanne
Fun! Thanks for the great ideas. I can't believe the pencil sharpener is already considered vintage. Where does the time go! ;-)
These are all such great suggestions! The rolls of quarters are really great stocking stuffers. Of course it won't completely eliminate them coming home with 30 loads of laundry, but it helps :) Love that pillow you had made - genius idea! Kat
With two girls in college I can totally relate and get your ideas here! And I think if I made laundry day easier for them, they might not bring it all home! Thanks, Terri!
XO,
JAne
What a fun post! I love your banner/pillow idea.
Tricia Rose did a fabulous job creating it. What I love best is how much you love your son. It shows in every word and I can tell you are already excited about him coming home for Christmas break. I can't wait to hear about his reaction when he walks in and looks at your magnificent decorations. Wonderful post!
Terri! That pillow turned out awesome :D Love this post, it's so entertaining :) Miss hanging out with you! Holiday times are soo busy...Hope we can meet up soon. xoxox
