I've finished polishing the silver,
purging the things I no longer need or use,
and re-organized what's left
into manageable groups that are easier to find and access at a moments notice.
Some things I haven't seen for years like this Martini Spike!
I have yet to use these wonderful Christofle chargers that I scored at a thrift shop last year,
because I forgot where I had stored them!
I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't seen these silver trays shine like this for years!
It feels so good to know that when I need them they are clean, polished and ready for me to set my table.
(I took my silver out of the plastic bags after getting some great advice about the risks of storing it this way.)
I can't wait to set my Thanksgiving Table!
Can you believe that I've been dying for some trophy cups all the while not realizing that I already had these sweet little sterling ones that I bought at a garage sale before my son was even born!
I have been treasure hunting in my own home these past several days.
Being a Virgo, I really do love the process of cleaning and organizing.
I recently found this family of pheasants (or quail, I'm not sure) and thanks to Eddie Ross' Thanksgiving Table inspiration, am looking forward to incorporating them into my Thanksgiving Table this year.
My husband bought me this food dome at The Alameda Point for my birthday.
I picked up this silverware chest at a garage sale last Saturday and painted it with leftover paint from my son's room (flax from Restoration Hardware) and added this vintage french enamel number that I found yesterday at Chelsea in Petaluma.
After I finished with the Dining Room,
I moved into the kitchen,
and then the linen closet where I purged about a dozen or so tablecloths that no longer fit our new round table.
Now it's time to clean the house!
Going through this process has really helped to get me excited about decorating for the Holidays...

Oh...loved seeing all your silver. You are right a good house cleaning is in order before pulling out all the Christmas stuff. I saw those crystal knife rests and it made me think of the ones my Mom has. I'm off to Ebay to see if I can score some of my own.

Loved seeing all your beautiful silver and have been inspired to clean mine! However, I see you've put some silver in plastic bags and must pass along what I recently discovered...you should NEVER store unwrapped silver in plastic bags or wrap and make sure that rubber bands do not come in contact with the silver. Since these are petroleum based products, they break down over time and stain the silver.

Oh my goodness that must have been so much work, all the polishing, I cant' imagine. It was worth it though because.......swoon, it's all gorgeous! I want to come dine at your house, what beauty. Some awesome items and you've inspired me with your silverware chest revamp for sure! The food dome is a lovely present.

To spend a day in your home would be a thrill. All your treasures are fabulous, honestly. The brass quail I swear my grandmother Moore had a set of when I was young. You my dear and your family are going to have a tremendous Thanksgiving. What time is dinner so I'm not late..hee..he?!

Treasure indeed...how exciting to find all these forgotten pieces. I don't own any silver due to the upkeep. Your Thanksgiving table will be gorgeous!!!! Like out of a magazine...can't wait to see it. Your linen closet is a dream. I want baskets to store my linens in. Really yours is so lovely.
AND yes!... we would love to come visit and take a tour of the Cathedral. Maybe in the slow month of January when the busy-ness of the holidays are over. We are going through the RCIA program now...it has been wonderful! My husband is Catholic and even though he graduated from Jesuit H.S he was never confirmed. So he is going through the program with me. It has brought even deeper unity in our marriage. Thank you for the kind invite. You have inspired me to start looking around my house. I have so many things stuffed here and there. Take the silver out of the plastic bags. I find that if I'm not using something for a while, like my tea service, I wrap it in Saran wrap. Keeps the tarnish down. You should start collecting the pacific silvercloth bags. You can buy the fabric by the yard and can even lay it on top of a drawer full of silver, helps stop the tarnish. I am glad someone is using nice things, I was beginning to think I was the only one left. Just noticed, in your new silverware chest. We have the same silverplate. I bought a few sets of this, this year on ebay. I love it, it is so traditional. Did you read Bunny Williams new book on entertaining? She has a whole closet of pale green china like your lettuce leaf ones. Check it out. Ann
Oh my goodness. I have no where near your silver plate collection well maybe because I'm not sure where it all is either. We don't have that much space.
I see your silver service is the Eternally Yours pattern in the chest you painted. The pattern is a beautiful quality.
The blue chargers are a great in house find so now that you found them be sure to use them often.
Lastly, now that you have polished your silver please visit and do mine. I polish so much of it each week that my own has become a horror show.
Look at all of these pieces... gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!! You always have the best pieces on here. You make a girl jealous!
Oh, and if you have a link to the headboard lady, shoot it over to me, would love to put it under her gorgeous picture! I had no idea!

Great post and your silver collection is exquisite. I can only imagine how beautiful your Thanksgiving table will be. You must take pictures.
