Thank you all for playing along and trying to guess my newest treasure. Drum roll please...
It is a carved walrus ivory page turner!
"Page turners have been used for centuries. They were used to turn pages without handling the paper, especially precious manuscripts, books and Bibles. They made it easy, especially larger books, and protected them from staining from the hands; natural oils. They were quite ornate and made from many materials from wood to gold and silver and precious stones."
"A letter opener, or paperknife, is a knife-like object used to open envelopes or to slit uncut pages of books and no Victorian desk would have been complete without one. Page turners were very popular protecting the users fingers or a ladies gloved hand from becoming soiled by poor quality printing ink when turning the pages of a book or newspaper."
You were all very close and actually taught me something as I had never heard of a bone folder before!
