has a store in Mill Valley...
right next door to Summer House!
I had no idea that one of my husband's favorite chefs not only lived in Mill Valley but had opened one of the most fabulous cooking shops I have ever seen!
It completely took my breath away!
It was amazing! The merchandising rocked!
It was like going on a treasure hunt of sorts...
In the "Library" among the cookbooks, were vintage treasures tucked about.
I can't tell you how often I lament that shops that carry mostly new merchandise could use a dose of vintage to really spice it up!
I finally found one that "gets it" and let me tell you... it worked beautifully!
There's nothing like the tension between old and new to breathe life to a space or a collection.
The collected feel of the culinary antiques really made this shop unique and a total stand out among others of it's kind.
It was a visual feast for the eyes.
Everywhere I looked I saw the juxtaposition of old & new...
I was smitten!
I felt like I might have been in Tyler's home, surrounded by his cherished collections.
It felt intimate and cozy... very different from the others.
It made the connection between the preparation and cooking of a meal,
to the presentation and serving of the meal using treasured family heirlooms and cherished collections
and not just for special occasions, but for everyday.
I love how we're seeing in magazines and blogs how people have begun storing their ironstone and silver on open shelving, within reach and using it everyday.
That's what I love about Tyler's shop...
it reflects that attitude.
It's real life and it embraces the past and marries it with the present.
My Lebanese Mom was thrilled when I found her this camel teapot, an early Mother's Day gift.
I heard their team of buyers regularly shop The Alameda Pointe Antiques & Collectibles Fair for many of the fabulous vintage offerings.
Love, love this juxtaposition of old & new!
They have an outstanding collection of hotel silver!
I hope you enjoyed your virtual visit to Tyler Florence's shop in Mill Valley, a must see if you're in the area! I can't wait to bring my husband back!
