Rock On!

Inspired by The Zhush's recent post, Rock On, I wanted to share this amazing "Bowl of Agates" that my good friend Ron Morgan of LOOT created.

Recently while in Chinatown I came across these magnificent  mushrooms.

I had just had Dim Sum with my lovely neighbor, Helen, who I have dubbed, "The Queen of Chinatown."  She was giving me a tour of her favorite shops when I spied these organic beauties.  She was so surprised at how taken I was with them.  They use them in their cooking, but I saw them as organic art... my favorite kind.

I usually keep the bowl of agates on the nightstand in our bedroom...

but last week at The Goodwill I found this beautiful Asian art piece that complements it so well.

I found the dresser several years ago at The Salvation Army.  I added the hardware and raised it up with a toe kick upholstered in black leather.

While moving it my husband found an envelope behind one of the drawers that was filled with old letters written in the ancient Russian language, Cyrillic.

I love the naive quality and elegantly subdued colors of this piece.  It is handpainted on wood and signed by the artist.

Agate is so beautiful. I love the swirly lines and crystallized effect. Great score at goodwill, I should be so lucky! I just did a chair makeover post using a chinoiserie fabric similar to your art piece.!

Oh yes, I wish you could get the letters translated! How cool! Love those agates, I think it's really important to have some organic art in one's home. Good karma!

About those letters... I was so enamored with them and tried several times to get them translated with no luck. My neighbor said she had a friend who could do it so I gave them to her. I never heard back so after several months I asked for them back and now I can't even remember where I've stored them or I'd take some photos to show you. It's funny but I haven't thought about them for some time and now my interest is renewed... I'm going to look for them. I remember there was a photo from the Mexican Embassy which really fueled the mystery!

Even if you aren't able to get them translated (although I hope you do!), the idea of them is so fascinating and romantic!

I didn't know much about agate until this post. It is quite beautiful. Also love that you raised the dress, clever girl as many of the older ones are too short.
Lovely post terri. Much love Xo
