I just couldn't walk away from this
wonderful old antique radio with tons of vintage charm and chippy paint.
Just look at the back!!
They don't make them like this anymore. It weighs a ton!
Check out the dial and face... and the color, does it get any better?
I brought it home and now I'm pondering whether I should keep it or take it with me to sell at The Alameda Pointe Antiques & Collectibles Fair this Sunday.
There are so many spots in my house where it would look great.
Here it is in my son's room.
I'm so conflicted because everything I find and bring home I'm passionately in love with or I wouldn't buy it. I'm starting a business selling treasures. This Sunday will be my first time as a dealer at The Alameda Pointe. I'm sure it will get a lot of attention. I just found it last week. Should I keep it for a month and then take it next month? Do any of you have the same problem? We can't keep everything, right? I don't want to be on Oprah's next show about hoarders. I'd like to be able to contribute to my son's college education. I'd love to hear any advice you have to offer me as I start this new venture of selling with "my people" (fellow dealers) at The Alameda Pointe.

O what fun you are gonna have! Let us know all about it. It does look fab in your son's room. But you might get lots of attention with it on your first week out. Folks will say, "SHE has great stuff!" and will keep coming back. Hard to say. . . Good luck! LOL about the hoarders - so true!
Terri, Terri, Terri, I just love you and how passionate you are about your treasures. You have already answered your own question, Keep it for now and move on to the pieces you got awhile-ago. Remember our talk?!! Love you Lots, Kathysue
Oh dear.......you have daily decisions in front of you as you embark on this path. This might be really hard on you when you have to sell something. Good luck hon.XO
... exactly how I am feeling about the clock face ... hope you saw it ...
I think I would sell it ... first thought I had
... it doesn't look like you ... from the little I know of your style
hey you asked!
I agree with City Farmer. It's not quite you. You can sell it and buy other Treasures.
Love, Chris
Buying what you love does make it hard to sell. At the same time selling those things (at least half the time and even that is hard to do) is what may bring repeat customers and some income. The radio has major cool factor! I would bring it to the fair next month.
I would keep it because you love that someone painted it blue. KEEP IT and take it with you! I love that you have items on-top of it! It makes you want to touch and feel those items. So it is a great prop as well!! Multi-functional!! Use it to display your items on. The beauty of the radio is that it touches your soul. How can you get rid of that!? ;-)
Terri,
I just found your blog via FrenchBlue. I hope you enjoy your new business of selling treasures!
Mandy
It looks absolutely perfect right where you put it! Keep it, and in a year when you're over it, sell it i guess? How fun, to keep rotating new finds.
I like the way you put it Kellie!! Thanks
Love it! Keep it!
The color is so perfect.
(as far as grottoes go...you can tour Carlo Marchiori's home- go to www.catoga.com
The best known antiques dealer in Finland told my husband then they made TV series together "It's fun to buy and own, but you have to learn how to let go as well"...
If you are starting a business, I guess you want to sell goods that you like your self also, but also be ready to let them find new homes...
I find it extremely hard to get rid of my treasures, but nowadays consider much longer before I buy; Do I love this? Do I REALLY love this? Do I have use for it? Where should I keep it? Will Husband also like it? (It's also his home)... If the answer is YES to all the questions, then I allow myself to buy.
Listen to your heart--keep it for now and sell it when you're ready. That's the beauty of a side business like this (I also do this on the side)--you can try anything, and when it doesn't fit into your life anymore, you can usually pass it on (most of the time, turning a nice profit). Enjoy the benefits of your business and give it a try for a while if you want to.
Thanks Todd... I'm looking forward to this new business venture and I'm sure I'll get better and better at letting things go!! I so appreciate your advice :)
Hi There and How Do You Do!
It is my first time here and what a treasure your blog is.
I would keep the radio for a while. You can always sell it later but if you sell it now, you cannot get it back. (*_*)
Here's a true story...
I had an antique boutique for two years and struggled mightily with selling certain pretties as I only bought what I loved. One day I took in a fabulous antique dress form with an iron base I had just acquired. She was stunning and I had never seen another like her with her pigeon chest. No sooner than I got her into place a woman came up and exclaimed, "I love her - I want her- I need her in my life!" I gasped and actually replied, "Well now don't be too hasty!" At which point we both laughed as she knew what I was saying. I literally tried to talk her out of buying it and the customer said in a teasing voice, "Gee, do you want to sell things" to which I replied, "It depends!" More laughter. I refused to come down on price but she bought it nonetheless.
Then came the clincher when I told the customer I would meet her at the register because I wanted to have a few minutes alone with her (the dress form). This woman and I were practically in tears we laughed so hard. True to form, I walked the form through the store and up to the register with one arm around her shoulders and the other pushing her (she was on wheels). When the customer paid for her I made her promise to give her a good home but stopped short of asking for visitation rights.
My point is that if I had left it home for a while, I would have known that I wanted her to be a part of my life forever!
Best of luck with your new business venture.
Bisous,
