I must share a secret with you!
It's the most divine fried chicken and coleslaw sandwich! It compels hoards of foodies from around the Bay Area to stand in line for it day after day. The line moves quickly though and there is a pay off for the relatively short wait...free, freshly baked cookies are doled out while you wait!

Most days you will see Betty sporting her blue wig and mingling with her devoted customers while they sit at her vintage ironing boards digging into her amazing chicken sandwich!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few doors down is Scout Home Hardware, an "everything but ordinary" emporium.
So...if you find yourself in Oakland's Temescal district, be sure and grab a chicken sandwich at Bakesale Betty and then head over to Scout to check out their vintage offerings.
And if you're there on a Sunday don't miss the Farmer's Market where you can get a cup of
Blue Bottle Coffee!!
Oh Terri, are these some of the places I missed on Tues? Sob!, that sandwich looks so Yum!! Fun post, Kathysue
I actually have a song I sing to my husband whenever we drive by Bake Sale Betty's- It basically goes something like this: Fried Chicken Sandwich, Fried Chicken Sandwich- and you sing that about 6 x's in a row until husband pulls over and buys you one. They are the best. The lettuce filling is also very good and yummy with spicy peppers and vinegar. Very French as in Vietnamese sandwich. Nice soft baquette. Yumm..
This dieting woman cried when she saw that sandwitch... thanks for coming by , love to see you again soon.
Room Service~ Decorating 101,
Please don't cry... it comes as a salad too ;)
please don't do this to me.... It's 10:00 pm AND I'M STARVING AND AM NOW GOING TO MAKE A BIG SANDWICH although it wont' be anything like this! OY .....
I think I need to move to California.
Oh! I am so craving a fried chicken sandwich now! At 1:36 a.m.! Sigh.
What a great store.
I like your blog, there are so many pretty, inspirational blogs out there, but many are collections of pictures taken by somebody else. It is refreshing to find a an interesting blog where the blogger documents her own life and finds.
My husband and I will be driving the California Coast for our anniversary in June so keep all this info. coming. It's a repeat of a post graduation trip we took in 78' but no Motel 6's like the first time!
I am on my way! Promise me we will go have that sandwich and go to Scout! I want that chart with the spider on it!! Great post, it feels like I was really there~~~
XO
I would love to go there and taste this fabulous sandwich! The santos look divine , I still like them
I LOVE THAT STORE!!!! I want to go so badly. Reading peoples blogs is like taking on heartache because I see all of these fabulous places that I can't just get up and go to! Dang it! You lucky girl, you.
The sandwich looks delicious but I am most impressed by those ironing board tables - genius! Have a great weekend, Terri. Thanks so much for your kind comment. xo
What an unbelievably gorgeous sandwich, my stomach is crying out in want! I'm with Anne, those ironing boards as tables is so clever. Scout looks like my kind of store to whittle away the hours. The horse print I swear I saw in a room designed by Nate Berkus. I would love to own that. Just as well I live so far away, for now anyway. Great post Terri and thanks for the fun. Hoping your weekend is a scrumptious one. xx
Terri- your pics are amazing! I love the one inside Bakesale Betty's of all the cookies. I finally took Marc (last Saturday) and he loved it!
Girl I haven't been to Oakland for years...My mama use to work on 14th and Broadway at the H.S. Kress store when I was little and we lived in Alameda at that time..Fun post girl..Hope you have a GREAT weekend...hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
Sagrada is also a very near neighbor, just a few doors down...you'll have to take your mom their, they have alot of religious books and souvenirs...I like the ginger bread cookies the best at Bake Sale Betty, it has just the right snap in it. Don't you just love the ironing board dining table? I also get my knives sharpened at the knife store near Sagrada. Yes, Temescal is another neat little community of Oakland.
Lots of FAB items... and that sandwich looks trés delicious!
I just went to Bakesale Betty's last Saturday, then later on in the week a friend came by to visit, and brought yet another chicken sandwich over. Then my daughter's boyfriend decided he would like to have one, so then he brought one on another day. I just did a post on my blog about my Saturday adventure.
I love "Scout"
